Lake supporters send encouragements

Good wishes and luck! I hope the lake wins and we can put years behind us.

 In my high school years in the late 50’s, I passed by beautiful Walker Lake. The water level was close to the highway leading to the town of Hawthorne (Nev.). Passing by the lake in the late 70’s, I bought a lot close to the water with the thought of retirement in the area. Subsequent to my purchase, while on active duty, my dad kept me current on the status of the lake. High water, low water, no water a pattern reflected by the fish in the lake. 

 It is so important to save our precious gem – it may not seem like much but all of our efforts add up!! Thank you for all your hard work & your focus and energy!! 

 Still hoping that Walker Lake can gain enough water to allow “hardened off” Tui Chub and every other healthy fish and aquatic life to survive & proliferate and provide food for migrating birds who have used the land & lake for thousands of years. Good luck

My first trip to Walker Lake was in the late 60s with my parents. We stopped to picnic in one of those beautiful curved shelters. The lake was a surreal body of water with hundreds of birds, wild horses, & no trees. I had never seen anything like it. In 1996 friends bought property there and we enjoyed boating, and just hanging out. I live in NYC and for 26 years I fly out just to watch the sun come up over the lake. It recharges my batteries. Breaks my heart to see it drop year after year.Thank you for working so hard to safe it.

For many years, my husband and I drove from Las Vegas to Sacramento, using the northern route, through rural Nevada up to I-80. We always marveled at the lake in the desert! In 2008, we bought a house in Hawthorne, a hedge in case the recession of that year resulted in my losing my job and our home in North Las Vegas. Plus it would be our retirement home after I stopped working. Sadly the dream of retiring in Hawthorne never materialized, as my husband’s health didn’t hold up. And we sold that house in Hawthorne in 2018, shortly before my husband passed away. Long live Walker Lake.

I grew up in a rural area enjoying the great outdoors. As a result, I have always been a conservationist. I’ve always supported conservationist goals. When I bought a house in Walker Lake town, the cause became personal. Since my 2002 move, I’ve seen the effects of the lowering water levels. In my early years, Hawthorne was a bustling town with several restaurants and a bait and tackle shop. The Lake had fish, and fishermen were often seen on the lake. The Cliff House was open and serving delicious meals. Then year by year it all went away. Hawthorne is on Life Support, the fish are gone. The Lake is still Beautiful, But that’s not enough to Breath Life into the Regions. I’ve supported the Walker Lake Working Group since moving here. I appreciate there Efforts in turning things around. I always look Forward to the Walker Lake

I missed watching the Power Boat Races. A lot of People Having Good Time. I Missed Hearing from all the Fishermen who Fished The Lake. Some of the Stories I am sure were Fish Stories. I Missed Being At The Lake & Watching Fish Jump out of The Lake. They were Having A Good Time Like We use To.

Your efforts, time, and commitment are invaluable. ♡ May the Universe see what you are doing an rewarding you. ♡ Every day, envision the Lake as it should be ♡ I cannot imagine the dedication and drive it takes to continue this so very important battle. Peace and Success.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE WALKER LAKE WORKING GROUP. WE HAVE MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF PAST CAMP-OUTS. LOTS OF FLY FISHING AND BEAUTIFUL FISH. WE REMEMBER ONE SPECIAL TRIP THAT INCLUDED HAVING A SPECIAL VALENTINES DAY DINNER AT THE CLIFF HOUSE. WHAT A TREAT IT WAS.

When we bought our property at Shores of Walker Lake, we read about the history of Walker Lake. The fishing, boating & activities were great, and we want them to return. The Lake deserves a second chance. Give us water, Give us fish and the people will come. This will benefit everyone who call the area home.

We love to travel & travel back to places we love on our 3X country trips so far; Walker Lake is a special stop. Very exciting to have discovered it in 2017 & we’ve been supporters ever since. Keep up the good work!!

I live in Bishop & have supported the Mono Lake Committee for many years, so when I first heard of Walker Lake, I understood the issues.  Thank you for your hard work & dedication.
